Club Plates / Club Permit Scheme

There are a number of VTC and VicRoads requirements in regard to Club Plates/Club Permit Scheme.

Below you will find details on what is required to be eligible for Club Plates.

They will be able to not only answer any questions you may have but will also be able to organize documentation and a viewing of the car.

Before applying to the Club for a Club Permit please ensure you have read both the VTC rules as well as Vic Roads and you fully understand what is required.

VTC Rules

VTC is looking for active members who want to be apart of a club and not just get Club Registration and never be seen again.

To obtain Club Reg through our club you are required to meet the club criteria listed below.

Must present a current Road Worthy Certificate.

Must attend at least 4 club events per year. This can include meetings.

Car can only have period modifications, these are at the discretion of the clubs CH plate officers for H (Historic) plates.

Cars requiring M (Modified) plates will be at the discretion of the club and will require appropriate engineers reports.

Your membership will entitle you to Club permit, extra club permits will incur a $30 fee on top of your yearly membership.

The Victorian club permit scheme allows members of car clubs (including motorcycle, trailer/caravan and machinery clubs) that are recognised by VicRoads to make limited use of historic vehicles on the road network.

A club permit can be issued to the following vehicles in the following categories:

Veteran vehicles – manufactured before 1 January 1919;
Vintage vehicles – manufactured after 31 December 1918 and before 1 January 1931.
Classic and Historic vehicles - manufactured after 31 December 1930, but more than 25 years before the date of the application for a club permit.

These categories can include trailers and modified vehicles such as street rods.

Vehicles which are replicas of vehicles in the above-mentioned categories may also be issued with a club permit.

Club permits are issued for 12 month periods and vehicles are issued with specific club permit plate(s).
